J-PARC (Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex) consists of a series of world-class proton accelerators and the experimental facilities that make use of the high-intensity proton beams. Open to users from around the globe. J-PARC is a multi-purpose and multidisciplinary facility that is unique in the variety of secondary-particle beams produced and put to use in cutting-edge research across a wide range of scientific fields. Neutron, pion, kaon and neutrino beams are all produced at J-PARC via collisions between the proton beams and target materials (spallation reactions). The applications of these beams include fundamental nuclear and particle physics, materials and life science, and nuclear technology.
KEK, the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization, is one of the world's leading accelerator science research laboratories, using high-energy particle beams and synchrotron light sources to probe the fundamental properties of matter. With state-of-the-art infrastructure, KEK is advancing our understanding of the universe that surrounds us, its mechanisms and their control.
IMSS is a research organization that researchers from both inside and outside Japan study the structure and functionality of materials using accelerators. Its mission is to maintain experimental equipment and detector systems and to provide them to researchers based on their research objectives. Synchrotron radiation, neutrons, muons and slow positrons are used to comprehensively investigate a wide range of materials from those at the atomic level to polymers and biomolecules.
Work scope of JAEA ordained by the Japan Atomic Energy Agency Act of 2005
While conducting a one-year survey of the utilization of neutron and other quantum beams, the CROSS-Tokai office, together with the CROSS Head Office in Tsuchiura, prepared an application to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) to be appointed as the "Registered Institution for Facility Use Promotion" for the public-access neutron beam facilities at J-PARC. This application was submitted in February 2011 and the appointment of CROSS-Tokai to the role was confirmed the following month. Accordingly, CROSS-Tokai commenced its activities as the "Registered Institution for Facility Use Promotion" (RI) on the 1st of April, 2011.
Thank you for the cooperation of participants. And we are grateful to the great supports of related staffs and organizations.
